CONSTRUCTING THE 20' SKIPJACK

 

 

The basic components of the framework cut from 5mm Balsa sheet with the Datum WL marked on each.
The centreboard case sides glued to the fore and aft girder pieces to make up the centreline structure.
An aft view of the frames glued to the centreline structure.
Another view of the framework – note notches have not been cut yet for the stringers.
The gunwale stringer laminated in place.
The chine stringer fitted.
The start of the side planking using 3mm Balsa sheet.
The side planking complete and trimmed ready for the bottom planking.
The bottom planking started from aft – as it goes round the bow it needs to be put on in narrower diagonal strips.
The bottom planking complete and ready for trimming and sanding.
The cockpit sides fitted.
The deck being fitted.

Taking the shape off the model for the bulwark strake – this shape is given on the plans.
The hatch, tabernacle, schooner stem, scroll boards and bowsprit fitted.
A bow shot of the completed static model – the cabin window was simply a piece of Acetate with a rim applied with bronze paint glued to the cabin side.
A stern shot of the completed model. Amati 5 to 6mm welded brass rudder fittings were used.

 The printed plan price excludes postal charges, which will be added to the plan price when the charge is made to your debit/credit card.

All posted items sent outside the UK are usually sent by Royal Mail International Tracked Service.
